Reality Check

  • Claim:

    Easy to use

  • Reality:

Ease, is based on practicality and sometimes the discipline to create a habit. Here, the habit would need to be created to rely on the STEER device. Also, it is a new wearable that hangs on an unusual part of the arm, and although it is relatively easy to put on, ease of use is questionable.

  • Claim:

    Premium materials

  • Reality:

Plastic typically is not considered a premium material, but the design incorporates creative design with an easily adjustable bracelet.

  • Claim:

    High Accuracy

  • Reality:

The STEER is a new style of device using existent technology. GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) is a tech that is headed in the right direction but is not quite to the point of high accuracy.

Something To Think About

Any easy way for the campaign to have shown the accuracy would be to put the wearable on someone in bed, as they fall asleep. Technically the same readouts and responses would be effective for someone in bed or in the car.

  • Claim:

    Safety

  • Reality:

The idea behind the STEER is obviously safety. Any step towards creating more safety on the roads is solid.

  • Claim:

    Efficiency

  • Reality:

It seems as if the claim is saying that the STEER is efficient in regards to smoking or consuming caffeine. This is a possibility, and if you consider a shock to the skin less harmful than a dose of caffeine, then that is up to you.

  • Claim:

    Durability

  • Reality:

With a rigid design, the STEER device lines up for a durable life.

  • Claim:

    Easily adjustable

  • Reality:

Using a very common adjustable mechanism, this is possible.

  • Claim:

    Elegancy

  • Reality:

A relatively bulky wearable that has yet to make the fashion industry, is yet to be proven as elegant.

Bottom Line

The STEER device enters the market at a good time, as the population is growing and safety on the roads is continuing to be a global focus and need. The tech exists and the STEER is not introducing anything revolutionary in this campaign except for the merging of the technology in a practical way. There is still a lot of progress that stress and fatigue sensors need to make for accuracy to be relied upon. Keep in mind the variables that can play into the ease of use, practical use, and accurate use for the STEER when thinking about backing this campaign.
