About the Project

BIKI is the world's first bionic underwater drone that is also the only underwater robot featuring automated balance, obstacle avoidance, and return to base. By supporting a 4K camera, BIKI presents you with the best view from underwater. BIKI, the smallest but strongest. Through this intelligent robot fish, you can visualize the underwater world from a completely new perspective. BIKI is not only an almighty underwater drone but also a robot pet full of emotions. Now, just tell BIKI what you want to do!

Reality Check

  • Claim:

    1.12 mph Fishtail Driven

  • Reality:

Achieving 1.12 mph in a completely docile and calm pool/lake is a lot different than achieving 1.12 mph in the ocean with currents.

Something To Think About

If a current in the ocean is 2 mph, which happens often, is pushing against the Biki which is only travelling at 1.12 mph, the Biki will easily get swept away. The currents also dramatically affect the ability of top speed for the Biki.

  • Claim:

    196 ft Max Depth

  • Reality:

The Biki is designed to withstand a max depth of 196 ft before the device is compromised. This has been built on and improved by Robosea through different , earlier versions of the Biki.

Something To Think About

The max range of the underwater remote is 33 ft, so in order to be controlling the Biki at a depth of 196 ft, you would need to be scuba diving under water to that depth to accompany the Biki. Otherwise, you would just have to set the depth and let the Biki dive and record without having realtime control.

  • Claim:

    4K UltraHD Camera

  • Reality:

The tech allows for the possibility of a 4K to function properly in the Biki.

  • Claim:

Camera Stabilizer (Unprecedented anti-shake camera system)

  • Reality:

"Unprecedented - never done or known before." Although the ability to stabilize the camera may be effective in the Biki, to be unprecedented is a very bold statement.

  • Claim:

90-120 minutes of video shooting and storage.

  • Reality:

This claim is portrayed confusingly as one section claims that there is 90-120 minutes of video shooting and the other 90-120 minutes of video storage. If the claim is talking about storage at 1080P then, there should not be much variation, especially 30 minutes, in regards to how much time of footage can be filmed

Something To Think About

The advertised recording time of 90-120 minutes is calculated if you are recording at 1080P. If you are recording with the advertised 4K UHD then your recording time is potentially shorter than 90-120 minutes with only 32gb of internal storage

  • Claim:

    Automated Obstacle Avoidance

  • Reality:

The Biki is designed with IR sensors to guide the device away from obstacles in the way of its path.

  • Claim:

    Route Customization

  • Reality:

In theory this works with internal GPS. Keep in mind the GPS can only connect while on top of the water.

Something To Think About

If GPS only works when the BIKI is on the top of the water. Consider the fact that if you set a customized route that dives and goes under water. it could easily lose its position especially when fighting different speeds of current.

  • Claim:

    Wireless Controlling

  • Reality:

It is important to understand that no matter how the BIKI is advertised, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE BIKI WITH VIDEO OR YOUR PHONE IF UNDER THE WATER. The app controller and video live stream is only available if not under water. The BIKI must be controlled by a separate device for real time control if it dives under the water.

Bottom Line

Biki is an amazing idea with a great design. However, there are a lot of elements that are cause for further thought by a backer. The advertisement portrays that the app can control the BIKI real time via a live video stream under water. It is important to note that this is impossible with today's technology without a tether or attached cable. There is a remote device that controls the BIKI underwater that is a separate device but must remain within 33 feet of the BIKI to maintain control and requires the controller to also be in the water at the same time. The route customization has a lot to overcome with variations in currents in the ocean, since the GPS does not work under water. The claims of monitoring your children and ensuring children's safety are stretching the reality of the functioning BIKI. Also, "BIKI is not only an underwater drone, but also a family member full of emotions. It will attend to your whole life, witnessing your happiness and maturing." Certain claims are so bold and require the potential backer to consider them in full detail. Some of the elements of the BIKI appear to be too good to be true, and as you investigate, you may find that they are.
