About the Project

Following Kodama's success last year delivering the Trinus 3D printer to all backers, we're ready to once again raise the bar in 3D printing while lowering the price. Introducing Obsidian, a never-before-seen combination of reliability, quality, and aesthetics. If that's not enough: It runs on non-proprietary firmware, too.

Reality Check

  • Claim:

    PLUG & PRINT

  • Reality:

The Obsidian is designed with simplicity in mind and caters to the idea of being able to "plug and print." As always, it is important to consider settings, configurations and other aspects to not over simplify the concept of "plug and print."

  • Claim:

    POWER OUTAGE RECOVERY

  • Reality:

An intuitive feature that eliminates frustrations involved with 3D Printing.

  • Claim:

With Obsidian you’re not limited to PLA. Upgrade your package to include a heated bed for printing with Nylon, ABS, PETG, and more!

  • Reality:

This is a possibility, but please note that for this feature to be added, a backer must pay more to receive the Deluxe Version.

Bottom Line

The Obsidian 3D Printer is a device that has a lot to offer. The simple design, provides a platform for potential simple functioning plug and play. Price point allows for a lot of possible backers and support. Some of the earlier versions of the Obsidian had several glitches that have evolved in later versions. Keep in mind that Kodama, Inc has had a successful previous campaign. Also, it is important to note that there is a standard version and a deluxe version with different features.
